Patricia Bromley

Patricia Bromley is Associate Professor in Stanford’s Graduate School of Education (GSE), Sustainability and (by courtesy) Sociology at Stanford University. She is Director of the Scandinavian Consortium for Organizational Research (2022-) and Co-Director of the Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society (2021-). Bromley received her BA from the University of British Columbia in Canada, holds an MA in International Studies from Rutgers University, an MA in Sociology from Stanford, and an MA and PhD in Education from Stanford.

Her research spans a range of fields including organization and management theory, comparative education, and the sociology of education, covering the substantive topics of sustainable development, nonprofits/civil society, and globalization. In addition to peer-reviewed articles in outlets such as American Sociological Review, Academy of Management Annals, Social Forces, and Sociology of Education, Bromley has published one book “Hyper-organization: Global organizational expansion” (co-authored with John W. Meyer, 2015, Oxford University Press) and she co-edited “The Nonprofit Sector: A Research Handbook, third edition” (with Woody Powell, 2020, Stanford University Press).
